Your September Artist Reset

Part 1: Get organized, choose your next move, and start the month with a plan.

Hey SoundBirthers 👋

September is here — and for independent artists, it’s the perfect time to reset, get organized and start planning what comes next.

After the slower pace of summer, September brings back routines, new projects and fresh momentum. Instead of trying to do everything at once, use the beginning of the month to take a step back, review your music strategy and decide where you want to go next.

Welcome to The September Artist Reset by SoundBirth. 🎶

Over the next few weeks, we’ll take you through several practical steps to help you prepare your music, organize your releases, promote your work and make the most of the tools available to independent artists.

Let’s start with Part 1.

1. Take a step back and review your music 🎧

Before planning your next release, take a moment to look at what you’ve already done.

Ask yourself:

  • What have I released recently?
  • Which songs performed best?
  • Which release am I most proud of?
  • What did I learn from my last release?
  • What would I do differently next time?
  • What do I want to achieve over the next few months?

This doesn’t need to be a complicated analysis.

The goal is simply to understand where you are before deciding where you want to go.

Your previous releases can tell you a lot about your audience, your creative direction and your strategy. Use that information to make better decisions about your next move.

2. Check your artist profiles 🔎

Your music might be great, but your artist profiles are often the first thing a potential fan sees.

Take a few minutes to check your profiles across your streaming and social platforms.

Make sure your:

  • Artist name is consistent
  • Profile picture is up to date
  • Artist bio reflects what you’re doing now
  • Links work correctly
  • Latest release is easy to find
  • Social profiles point people toward the right places

This is also a good moment to review your Smart Links.

With SoundBirth, artists can create Smart Links to make it easier for listeners to access their music across different platforms.

One simple rule: make it easy for someone discovering you to find your music.

3. Decide what you want to achieve in September 🎯

One of the biggest mistakes artists can make is trying to do everything at the same time.

Release a single.
Shoot a music video.
Grow on TikTok.
Pitch playlists.
Find collaborators.
Build a website.
Post every day.

Suddenly, September is over.

Instead, choose one main objective for the month.

For example:

“I want to release my next single.”

Or:

“I want to finish the promotion strategy for my next release.”

Or:

“I want to improve my artist profiles and build a better link ecosystem.”

A clear objective gives you something to work toward — and makes all the smaller tasks easier to prioritize.

4. Turn your idea into a date 📅

There’s a big difference between having an idea and having a plan.

“I want to release new music soon” is an idea.

“My next single is coming on September 25th” is a plan.

Once you’ve chosen your objective, give yourself a deadline.

If you’re planning a release, remember that preparation takes time. Distribution, artwork, promotion, pitching and content creation should ideally be planned well before release day.

The earlier you start, the more options you have.

5. Choose your next move 🚀

Now put everything together.

You’ve reviewed your music.
You’ve checked your artist profiles.
You’ve chosen your September objective.
You’ve put a date on it.

So what’s the next action?

Make it something concrete.

Not:

“Work on my career.”

Instead:

“Finish my single artwork.”

“Upload my release.”

“Create my Smart Link.”

“Prepare my release campaign.”

“Update my artist bio.”

The smaller and more specific the action, the easier it is to actually do it.

Your September checklist ✅

Before you finish this first step of the September Artist Reset, make sure you can tick these boxes:

☐ Review your recent releases
☐ Identify what worked and what you learned
☐ Check your artist profiles
☐ Make sure your links are up to date
☐ Choose one main goal for September
☐ Give that goal a deadline
☐ Decide on your next concrete action

That’s it.

You don’t need a perfect strategy today.

You just need a direction and a first step.

What’s next?

This is only the beginning of the September Artist Reset.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll go deeper into the different stages of building momentum around your music — from preparing a release and creating a promotion strategy to pitching, analyzing your results and making the most of your SoundBirth tools.

For now, start simple.

One week. One step. One move forward.

September is yours.

What are you going to do with it? 🎶🔥
